The bumpers from the Beetle were changed several times over the years, some export models deviated from the German version. For example, Beetles for the American and Canadian markets were equipped with protective tubes from 1952 to 1966. Between 1967 and 1973, the bumpers were the same as those of the European VW Beetles 1300 and 1500. From 1974 onwards, only the 1303 model was supplied with safety bumpers. These were heavier and mounted on bumper supports with an internal shock absorber.

All of these bumper modifications were necessary to meet the more stringent safety requirements in their respective countries.

Although the quality of the chrome is good, chrome steel always needs to be maintained. If you don't want to polish your bumpers regularly and would rather have a bumper that will never rust again, the models with safety tubes are also available in polished stainless steel.

Note: Square safety bumpers come with black tape instead of protective rubber. If you prefer to keep your Beetle in its original condition, then these rubbers should be available. Add them to your order if needed. They are available from our store.
