Throttle Cable Grommet

Throttle cable rubber grommet.
Type 1 engines - from 1/66 onwards.

The escape of cooling air must be avoided as much as possible. That is why Volkswagen did everything to ensure that the cooling air cannot escape anywhere. The throttle cable enters the engine bay through the rear wall and is guided through the cooling area to the carburetor via a metal tube. Both the front rubber and the rear rubber are no longer present on many engines. It is precisely these details you have to pay attention to when building the engine, and then this grommet must not be missing under any circumstances.
