The most important part of a tow bar is the towing ball. This determines whether you can tow the weight of the vehicle.

The towing ball mentioned here has European type approval and therefore also a type plate. The maximum nose weight is 200 kg (S-value) and the D-value (a derivation of the maximum trailer weight) is 17.2 kN. So it is the towing ball together with the towing vehicle that determines whether the load may be towed. If the type plate is missing, the tow bar is legally considered untested and the trailer may not weigh more than 750 kg. The width is 130 mm, the bolt spacing 90 mm, and the ball has a diameter of 50 mm.

Note: The towing ball has to be fitted with M16 bolts, which are not included. These bolts are supplied with a separate tow bar kit or a complete tow bar.
