There are many complaints about the "faulty" wiper system of our classic Volkswagens, which worked well when delivered from the factory. You have to check everything carefully and replace the parts that have too much play. After that your wiper system works like new again.

It will never wipe as perfectly as you are used to from a modern car, but considering the age of your classic it is a well-functioning system for that period, still usable in daily traffic. The sudden stopping of your wipers in pouring rain has, in many cases, only one cause: corrosion between the outer sleeve and the shaft. Regular maintenance, keeping the shaft working with multi-spray, can protect you from this phenomenon, although this should not be necessary.

The shafts are fitted with a seal at the factory to prevent moisture between the outer sleeve and the shaft. After years of use the whole thing wears and excessive play develops, so the seal can no longer do its job properly and moisture gets into the mechanism. You cannot take these apart. Replacement is the only right way.

The wiper axles are supplied as a whole, including the nuts and rings that secure the axle through the body of the car.
