The ignition system of our classic Volkswagen can cause many problems. After years of use the mechanical ignition system wears out and becomes increasingly unreliable. If available for your engine, you can replace the complete distributor, but there is a much better alternative: the 123 distributor for standard and performance engines.

The 123 distributor is supplied in a housing that looks very similar to the original, but inside you will no longer find any mechanical parts. The outdated mechanical system has been replaced by a computer-controlled high-tech system, resulting in an optimal ignition system with maximum performance and practically maintenance-free.

All mechanical parts such as contact points, centrifugal weights or vacuum diaphragms, springs and bearings have been replaced by a single part: the central shaft with rotor. The internal electronics ensure the correct ignition timing and the optimal dwell angle at various engine speeds, so that you get the maximum spark at every speed. The parts used to set the ignition are not subject to wear. Once it is set, you no longer have to worry about it.

On the standard 123 ignition, a small switch behind the hex screw on the underside of the housing sets the correct advance curve for your engine (16 different advance curve settings are available). Each 123 ignition is also fitted with synchronous technology, normally only used in Formula 1, where very high engine speeds are reached. The 123 ignition adjusts the ignition timing per cylinder, resulting in an engine that runs smoothly and delivers more power and less wear. These are not the only advantages compared to conventional ignition; here is an overview of the benefits:

- automatic quick-start program when the engine is cold
- improved ignition per cylinder as described above
- continuously variable setting and correction of the ignition angle
- automatic shut-off after 1 second when the ignition is switched on and the engine is not running (the ignition coil is then protected)
- fuel saving
- works with 6 and 12 V (automatically detected)

The 123 ignition system is suitable for engines:
Type 1, except for 25 hp and 30 hp
Type 3 engines

CT/CZ and Type 4 engines: If an electronic ignition was originally present, add the matching ignition coil, as the current coil is not suitable.

123 TUNE
By connecting the 123 TUNE to the computer it can easily be adapted, without restrictions, to the exact needs of the user, however demanding these may be. The ignition offers two switchable advance curves, so that you can set the ignition when driving on two different fuels, such as petrol; LPG; petrol and E85. The 123 TUNE is fitted with a vacuum connection that remains disconnected when this option is not available, as is the case with many performance engines with larger carburetors. This makes the 123 TUNE suitable for all kinds of engines, from standard to high-performance engines.

These are all the additional functions the 123 TUNE has to offer, far beyond the standard distributors:
- two advance curves (500 to 8000 rpm)
- two advance curves at zero load and overrun deceleration curves (0 to 200 kPa or -30 Hg at +15 psi)
- two rev limits (MAP start), where the idle advance begins when the connection is made
- two speed-limit fields (advanced random spark)
- real-time setting via the control panel
- rpm stopwatch (ideal for tuning on the road)
- functions for file import and file-to-file export (easy modification of curves)
- electronic dashboard with:
temperature display (in Celsius or Fahrenheit)
manifold inlet pressure (in bar or inches Hg/psi)
rev counter (0 to 8000 rpm crankshaft)
energy meter (flow in the ignition coil)
full-advance meter (in degrees crankshaft)
