The ignition system of our classic Volkswagen can cause many problems. After years of use the mechanical distributor is worn. If available for your engine, you can replace the complete distributor, but there is a much better alternative: the 123 ignition for both standard and tuned engines.

The 123 ignition is supplied in a housing that resembles the original, but inside you will no longer find any mechanical part. The outdated mechanical system has been replaced by a high-tech, computer-controlled system, resulting in an optimal ignition system with maximum performance and practically maintenance-free.

All mechanical parts such as contact points, centrifugal weights or vacuum diaphragm, springs and bearings have been replaced by a single part: the central shaft with rotor. The internal electronics ensure the correct advance and the optimal dwell angle at various speeds, so that you get maximum spark at every speed. The parts used to set the ignition timing are not subject to wear.

On the standard 123 ignition a small switch behind the hex screw in the housing base is used to set the correct advance curve for your engine (16 different settings available). Each 123 ignition is also fitted with synchronization technology, normally only used in Formula 1. If the compression of one cylinder differs from the others, the rotation of the flywheel and camshaft is less even; the 123 ignition detects this and adjusts the ignition timing per cylinder, resulting in a smoother-running engine that delivers more power and wears less. Additional benefits:

- automatic quick-start program when the engine is cold
- balancing improvement as described above
- dwell angle continuously set and corrected
- switches off after 1 second when the ignition is on and the engine is not running (protecting the ignition coil)
- fuel saving
- works on both 6 and 12 volt (automatically detected)

123 ignition systems are suitable for:
Type 1 engines except 25 and 30 hp
Type 3 engines

CT/CZ and Type 4 engines: If an electronic ignition was present at the factory, please add the prescribed ignition coil, available in our shop.

123 TUNE+ with Bluetooth

By connecting the 123 TUNE+ via Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet, it can be set up very easily, exactly and without restrictions according to the user''s wishes, however demanding these may be. The ignition offers two switchable advance curves, allowing you to set the ignition when driving on two different fuels such as petrol & LPG or petrol and E85. The 123 TUNE+ has a vacuum connection that remains disconnected when this option is not available, as is the case with many tuned engines with larger carburetors. This makes the 123 TUNE+ suitable for all kinds of engines, from standard to heavily tuned.

Additional functions of the 123 TUNE+ over the standard models:
- two advance curves (500 to 8000 rpm)
- two vacuum advance and boost retard curves (0 to 200 kPa or -30 inHg to +15 psi)
- two rev limits (MAP start), where the vacuum advance begins if connected
- two speed-limit fields (advanced random spark)
