During a rebuild nothing may be left to chance, and every part must be carefully checked before it is replaced. The same applies to the valve spring retainers. Check whether the retainers have hairline cracks and whether they are not bent. If in doubt, the retainers should be replaced. A loose valve can cause a lot of damage. Standard valve spring retainers:
These are identical to the original and suitable for normal or reinforced valve springs.

Chrome-molybdenum valve spring retainers:
By far the most commonly used valve spring retainers. They are made of chrome-molybdenum steel and are suitable for normal, single and double reinforced valve springs. They are slightly heavier than the original, but thanks to the choice of materials they are virtually indeformable.

Titanium valve spring retainers:
These are the valve spring retainers for the serious engine tuner. If you are not happy with the higher weight of chrome-molybdenum, titanium is the right choice. Titanium is a very strong metal that in this case withstands any valve spring pressure and, thanks to its low weight, is excellent for any type of tuning. Suitable for standard as well as reinforced single and double valve springs.
