Tightening and loosening bolts without damaging them is a challenge for many. Tightening two nuts on top of each other and loosening the bolts with the lower one is still the safest way. But you can now throw them in the bin anyway. There is a much better alternative: studs that can be fitted with an Allen key. The risk of damaging the threads is eliminated and they are fitted very quickly. The studs mentioned here have 8 mm metric thread with a length of 40 mm, a size roughly equal to the size Volkswagen used in various places on the crankcase and for various other engine parts. These studs replace the original 38 mm long studs, giving you 2 mm more space, which is considered very nice for all applications. The studs have a continuous thread and therefore no plain section in the middle between the studs; when screwing them in, mind the remaining length and use a locking device (Loctite) if necessary. Below is a list of the most common applications of these studs:

- Exhaust to cylinder head on all air- and water-cooled engines
- Generator support / breather on the crankcase for Type 1 and Type 3 engines
- Distributor clamp on the crankcase for 25 and 30 hp Type 1 engines
- Oil cooler support on the crankcase for Type 1 engines
- Oil pump on the crankcase
- Turbocharger on the exhaust
