Volkswagen certainly made a big difference between passenger cars and work buses in the beginning. A Volkswagen bus had to be functional, ignoring luxury and comfort, while passenger cars were more focused on comfort, although this was very sober compared to the competition.

The more luxurious passenger cars were equipped with armrests that also functioned as grab handles, while the standard VW buses and the cheapest VW Beetles had to make do with a simple grab handle.

On the Volkswagen Panoramabus, there was still a difference in the end caps, up to the 1969 model year they were chrome plated, in the years after that, they had black end caps. Only on the Microbus Deluxe they remained chrome-plated.
