For correct headlight aim, the adjusting mechanism must be in perfect condition. Rusted adjusting screws are a common problem: they damage the threads of the pins or adjusting hooks, and in some cases they even rust together.

The screws, adjusted from the outside of the headlight rim, must turn easily. If this is not the case, the parts causing the problem must be checked and replaced.

The screws are supplied with adjusting pins, rubber seals and springs. Cars with so-called sloping headlights (Volkswagen Beetle and Bus up to 7/1967) need additional adjusting hooks, which are supplied separately. In that case you need an adjusting bolt in addition to the free hook, so you cannot use the supplied adjusting pin.
