Our classic Volkswagens are usually fitted with incandescent bulbs; only the headlights for later model years were changed to halogen.

Incandescent bulbs have a limited service life; it must have happened to everyone that a bulb has to be replaced. When obtaining your driving license you are taught to check your lighting before departure. In theory you can get a fine if you drive around with a non-working lighting component.

It is therefore advisable (and in many countries even compulsory) to carry a set of replacement bulbs, so that you can replace a bulb on the road.
