If you own a Volkswagen Beetle built between 1956 and 1968, you have the option of fitting a carpet set made, like the original, from hair yarn (haircord).

The tunnel is not covered by these carpet sets; the rubber mat on the floor pan covers the tunnel. You can also order the tunnel carpet mentioned here, which covers your tunnel with luxurious hair yarn as well. Originally this was also used for the most luxurious versions.

The openings for the handbrake and gear lever are edged with vinyl in a colour similar to the hair yarn trim, as is the foot protection area next to the accelerator. If your VW Beetle is fitted with a heater indicator, the cut-out has a stainless steel ring and the outer edges are lined with cotton.

The carpet has to be glued; use spray adhesive.

You continue to use the original rubber mat on the floor pan, cutting off the tunnel part so that the rubber mat only remains on the floor pan.
