If you own a Volkswagen Beetle built between 1956 and 1968, you have the option of fitting a carpet set that, like the original, is made from hair yarn.

With these carpet sets the tunnel is not covered - the rubber mat on the floor pan covers the tunnel. You can also order the tunnel carpet mentioned here, which covers your tunnel in luxurious hair yarn as well. Originally this was used for the most luxurious versions.

The openings for the handbrake and gear lever are edged with vinyl in a color similar to the hair-yarn trim, as is the footrest area next to the accelerator pedal. If your VW Beetle is fitted with a heater indicator, the cut-out has a stainless steel ring and the outer edges are lined with cotton.

The carpet must be glued in place; use spray adhesive.

You continue to use the original rubber mat on the floor pan, trimming off the tunnel section so that the rubber mat remains only on the floor pan.
