Retaining Strap Rear Seat Back

Retaining strap / rubber tab for the rear seat back.
VW Beetle - up to 7/67.
VW Beetle 1200 - from 8/67.

On the older Karmann Ghia and Volkswagen Beetle models, the rear seat back is held by a rubber strip clamped behind a hook.

This rubber is not suitable if the seat back is locked with a mechanism, as on the later models and the more luxurious Volkswagen Beetles after 1968. For the Karmann Ghia this rubber is available in two colors, as originally usual. The model year indicates when Volkswagen used this color, so they are the same in terms of model.
