Drive Shaft Swing Axle

Drive shaft / axle shaft for swing axle.
For left or right.
VW Beetle 1200 - from 8/67 onwards.
VW Beetle 1300 | 1500 - from 8/66 onwards.
VW Type 3 all models - 1962 (chassis no. 76 300) to 7/68.
VW Type 3 Variant - from 8/68 onwards.

The drive shaft transmits power from the engine to the wheels via the gearbox and the differential.

The permissible play between the friction blocks (pivot plates) and the drive shaft is 0.035 to 0.244 mm. If the play is greater, the pivot plates and drive shafts can wear. In the worst case the drive shaft is so worn that only replacement is possible, in which case the pivot plates must also be replaced at the same time.

Even if the splines of the drive shaft are worn, which mainly occurs when the rear axle nut is not tightened to the correct torque and play develops as a result, there is only one possible solution: replacing the shaft.
