On the Volkswagen Beetle up to 12/1953 and on the unique brake system of the Volkswagen Bus, the brake fluid reservoir is screwed directly onto the master cylinder - at the time a perfect solution with the lowest risk of leakage. This is also the reason why this brake system is often used in buggies and all kinds of other home-made creations.

In the final years of the Volkswagen Beetle, the Karmann Ghia and VW Type 181 models used a reservoir located elsewhere in the car.

On the latest Volkswagen Bus it is a little different. In the last months of Volkswagen Bus production the master cylinder reservoir is filled directly, which was no longer possible from the introduction of the Panorama Bus for reasons of space. The reservoir is filled by means of a filler container located elsewhere in the car.

It is important that the reservoir is free of leaks, which should be checked regularly. The reservoirs for the Volkswagen Beetle between 1/1954 and 7/1960 are made of metal with the optional cap. All other reservoirs are supplied with the cap if applicable.
