A good brake set is certainly no unnecessary luxury, which is why from 1966 Volkswagen replaced the existing front drum brakes with front disc brakes.

In many cars the original engine has already been replaced with a larger or more powerful one. What often gets overlooked are the brakes. More power is good, but you also have to be able to stop, so these units were developed to improve your braking. They are available for 5-lug wheels (205 mm PCD) and 4-lug wheels (130 mm PCD), so it is also possible to fit 5-lug disc brakes to a car with standard 4-lug wheels.

All parts of these kits are of very high quality and, for cars built after 8/1957, are designed so that the track width is not changed compared with the original (up to 7/1957 the track varies by around 2 cm per side).

Note: If you also want to fit discs at the rear, it is necessary to replace the master cylinder with a higher-capacity one. For the other kits you must order this separately.

Note on 5-lug disc brake kits:
These kits consist of: brake discs, calipers complete with pads, brake hoses, mounting brackets, wheel bearing sets, a master cylinder (see also the note above) and the required fitting hardware. On models up to and including 7/1957 the track varies by 2 cm per side. These kits can only be used when fitting 15-inch wheels; in the case of a VW Bus this wheel type was fitted from the factory up to chassis number 181 2617 369.

Note on 4-lug disc brake kits:
Conversion kit 4003302 consists of: calipers (ATE) with pads, caliper mounting set, brake discs, disc brake pins, brake hoses, dust caps, dust cap mounting sets and wheel bearing sets.

Conversion kit 4003287 is the same as above except for the Uber-brand calipers. A very good reproduction that lowers the overall price of this kit. If you want the best possible quality, choose the kit above with the Ate calipers.

Conversion kit 4003288 consists of: calipers with pads, mounting parts, mounting brackets and brake discs. This kit does not include wheel bearing sets, please order these separately. It is also not possible to fit a dust cap with this conversion kit. Regular cleaning is required to preserve the discs and calipers.
