The charge warning light in the voltmeter only lights up when the battery is no longer being charged. You must then take immediate action to find the cause. The cause is usually in the alternator or the voltage regulator and has nothing to do with the battery. If the generator/alternator overcharges, the battery is overcharged, which is not a pleasant experience for the battery. The warning light does not light up in that case.

A separate voltmeter will prevent this. As long as the gauge shows between 12 and 14 volt, everything is fine. If the gauge shows more, you should look for the fault immediately. If the gauge does not reach 12 volt, large consumers may be active at that moment. If this is not the case, the cause is often the poor condition of your battery and you should consider replacing it. Buying a voltmeter is therefore not a pointless instrument; it warns you before you suddenly come to a standstill.
