Torsion Springs Standard

Most classic Volkswagens have a torsion bar suspension or a number of spring steel leaves that bundle together into the torsion spring. Over time the torsion spring gives way; under very heavy load it can even crack or break. The latter is often not the case on cars that have always been used on public roads, only in the event of a major collision or when used off-road.

If you have a narrowed front axle, you can no longer use the standard torsion leaves; they (just like the anti-roll bar) have to be narrowed. If you bought a narrowed front axle from our range, you do not need to measure anything, the leaf packs listed below have the correct length. If this is not the case, you can take the risk, but it is better to measure the whole thing. The overall length of these leaf packs is stated separately.

Never replace only the upper or lower leaf pack, but always both at the same time. If you do not, there is a good chance you will soon have a sagging suspension. Not every set is supplied in the same way; see the overview below whether they are supplied per bundle (each) or per two bundles (per pair).

03379 : trailing arm bolts and lock nuts
The leaf pack is fastened at three points per bundle, at the ends together with the trailing arms and in the middle. If the special Allen bolts with lock nuts are heavily affected by corrosion, it is advisable to renew them. They are supplied per set of two (2 Allen bolts and 2 lock nuts). Applicable to all Volkswagens fitted with a torsion bar front axle.
