Over time the seats sag, causing the upholstery to tear. This tear is caused by the space created between the upholstery and the padding. But the most annoying thing is the poor seating comfort. Check the condition of the seat padding before you start upholstering. New upholstery over old, sagging padding gives a reasonable result at first after fitting, but after a few months the upholstery will start to sag, and you have to replace the padding.

For many models of the most diverse model years of the Volkswagen Beetle and Buses, new padding of the same material Volkswagen used at the time is available. The padding is made of horsehair.

The dimensions are indicated in the illustration, in case you do not know exactly which year the seat in your car was built.

Between the spring pack and the seat padding there should be damping felt, which protects the seat padding and helps to counteract noise produced by the spring packs.
