If your Volkswagen is fitted with a steel sliding roof, you have a luxury version, or it is possible the sunroof was ordered as an extra option at the VW dealer.

The sunroof contains many parts that are subject to wear. In the first 15 years this was probably no problem, but after that there will be defects, even if the sunroof is not used at all. Not only the winding mechanism or the cables, but also the plastic plugs used to finish the mechanism, which also guide the cables, are often yellowed and half broken. The influence of the sun has everything to do with it.

The covers of the cable guides are fastened with screws. When tightening the screws, the clip fitted on the cap flexes, creating tension. If the clip is tightened too much, it spreads too far and breaks. Once broken, there is no tension range left and the plug comes loose at that point. This must therefore be taken into account during fitting.

Caps or covers are used to finish off the screw heads.
