Bearing DC Generator

Bearing for the DC generator.

Type 1 engine DC generator - front | rear.
Type 1 engine AC alternator - rear.
Type 3 engine DC generator - front | rear.

When the generator starts to make unusual noises, in most cases the bearings are worn. If you are not sure whether the noise comes from the generator, remove the drive belt and let the engine run briefly (attention: a Type 1 engine then has no cooling). If the noise is gone, you can be sure the generator caused it.

On DC generators the front and rear bearings are the same.

On AC alternators the front and rear bearings are different.

Front means the side on which the pulley is mounted.
