The valves are driven by the camshaft and the rocker arms and pushrods and let the mixture of fuel and air flow into the combustion chamber. This mixture is then compressed and ignited; the remaining hot exhaust gases are discharged through the exhaust valve.

The flow of the intake and exhaust gases must occur with as little resistance as possible; for this purpose the materials must be specially developed so the gases can flow through properly without resistance. The intake valve is larger than the exhaust valve to allow the strongest possible mixing in the cylinder.

The valves are heavily loaded, especially the exhaust valves. These get very hot and can only be cooled with difficulty, unlike the intake valves, which are partly cooled by the intake air-fuel mixture. Most of the heat, however, is dissipated via the valve seats and valve stems.

It is not only important that high-quality valves are fitted, but also that the engine is optimally adjusted. Damage due to valve failure or overheating is often caused by improper adjustment. Therefore make sure your engine is always perfectly adjusted and, if the valve clearance has to be set manually, that this is done in accordance with the prescribed adjustment data.

When overhauling the engine we recommend always replacing the valves, as in most cases you do not know how long they have already been in use. The valve must close optimally, be lapped into the seats with grinding paste and undergo a leak test; only then can you be sure your valves close properly.

The valves listed here are standard valves that replace the original valves. We do recommend protecting the valve stem with caps to avoid the valve stem being hit by the adjuster.
