Locking Plate Gear Lever

When dismantling the gear lever you will come across various parts. One of the most important is the locking plate, which ensures that reverse gear cannot be selected accidentally when changing gear. Reverse gear is only available when pressing down the gear lever. If you can engage reverse gear without pressing the lever, this plate is worn and you have to replace it. When unscrewing the gear lever, make sure it is in second gear and that the raised side, which points partly upwards, is on the right side; then the adjustment can begin:

1. Press the clutch, align the gear lever in second gear. The gear lever should be exactly at right angles to the transverse direction of the vehicle and tilted slightly backwards.
2. Push the locking plate to the left with a screwdriver until the plate touches the edge of the gear lever; the gear lever must not change its position.
3. Tighten the bolts in this position.

For the Volkswagen Bus this plate differs slightly from the original plate, but the operation and the way of fitting is the same.
Only fits vehicles with manual gearbox.
