- Order number: 4001400
Gearbox carrier / gearbox suspension in A-quality polyurethane.
VW Beetle - 8/60 to 7/72.
Karmann Ghia - 8/60 to 7/72.
Type 3 - until 7/67.
Type 181 bucket.
When accelerating and shifting gears, forces are released that cause the engine to tilt. To limit this tilt as much as possible, the engine mounts are fitted with rubber. The hardness of the rubber is put together at the factory for maximum comfort. If a heavier engine is mounted, this can cause problems. The original rubber is too soft, causing the engine to lean more than desired. In extreme situations, the engine can lean so much that it spontaneously jumps out of gear when accelerating or shifting.
These urethane rubbers are much harder than the original, so the transmission, and therefore the engine, sits more firmly on the chassis. This limits the engine's tilt, but also costs comfort; engine vibrations are passed along more noticeably.
These transmission mounts do not have a metal bracket like other versions do. If you mount these rubbers on heavily tuned engines, they will tear off faster than on a lightly tuned or normal engine. Therefore, we recommend that you only use these pads on stock or lightly tuned engines.
The rubbers are fastened with nuts and bolts. Metal bushings are placed through the urethane to protect the material. Use only the mounting hardware provided, this will ensure proper installation with maximum life.
For the Beetle and Karmann Ghia from August 1972 to December 1985, it is not possible to install the front rubber, but there is an alternative or conversion adapter made of urethane. The rear rubbers can be mounted on models up to July 1972 if the gearbox suspension is also replaced.
