Heater cable / heater flap cable.
Length: 1368 / 1378 mm.
VW Beetle swing axle - from 8/72 onwards.
Type 14 Karmann Ghia swing axle - from 8/72 onwards.
The heating is activated by a knob on the old Volkswagen and by levers on the last model years.
The heater cables are connected to this knob or these levers and run to the rear of the car, where they control the heat exchangers.
The cables are connected in pairs and split at the left and right heat exchanger for the last model years of the Beetle, Karmann Ghia and Type 3 models. On older models it is one long cable connected to the center of the central knob; the latter also applies to the VW Bus.
On the Volkswagen Buses from 1967 to 1972 the cables of the right and left heat exchanger were on separate handles; after that they were on one lever and the cables connected together. That is why you find two cables here, one for the left heat exchanger and the other for the right heat exchanger. From 1972 to 1979 three cables were used, one under the dashboard and the other two to the heat exchangers. From this period we speak of a front and rear heater cable.
All cables (except the universal model 01151) are supplied with a thickening at the end for fitting in the clamp of the heat exchanger arm.
If you have a kit car based on a VW chassis (buggy or own design) for which no suitable cable is available, you can use a universal cable. These universal cables have no thickening at the end and are extra long. You can easily cut these to size. You have to tighten the mounting screw in the clamp a little further than if a thickening is present.
