Make sure all ground points are free of oxidation and that the fixing points have good contact.

On our VW models the ground is taken directly from the battery terminal, which is fitted to the chassis via a ground cable. Between the gearbox and the chassis there is also an additional ground strap, which ensures the proper grounding of the engine.

The gearbox is mounted in rubber, with the disadvantage that these rubbers ensure that the engine and gearbox are wholly or partly insulated; the additional ground strap interrupts this. This strap is located on the side of the gearbox (at the level of the selector lever) and is fitted to the chassis.

Regularly check the condition of the ground strap and replace it in case of oxidation or damage.
