The standard air-cooled boxer engine only cleans its oil through a coarse oil strainer in the engine case. Fine particles stay in the circuit and accelerate wear on bearings and running surfaces. With a full-flow oil pump you route all the oil through an external fine filter before it returns to the engine - noticeably cleaner and gentler on the engine.

What does full-flow mean?

In a full-flow system the complete delivery volume of the pump is routed through the oil filter (unlike a bypass system, where only part of the oil is filtered). This pump is prepared for that with a suitable cover and the connections for the oil lines to the external filter. This way the filtration stays effective even at higher revs.

Does this oil pump fit my Beetle?

This full-flow oil pump is intended for the VW Beetle from 8/67 to 7/71. If in doubt, check the camshaft version and the fit of the pump cover on your engine, as Volkswagen fitted different pump sizes over the years.

Delivery and fitting

To connect to an external oil filter you also need oil lines, fittings and the filter itself - you will find these parts individually in our shop. During an engine rebuild it is advisable to always renew the oil pump, as it is a key wear part.

Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of a full-flow oil pump over the original? It filters all the oil through a fine filter instead of only through the oil strainer. That reduces wear and extends the life of the engine, especially on tuned or frequently driven engines.

Do I also need an oil filter? Yes. The pump is prepared for full-flow operation; you order the external filter, the lines and the connections separately.

Does it fit every Beetle engine? It is designed for the years 8/67 to 7/71. For other years there are different pump sizes - if in doubt, measure or ask.
