Tuck Away sport exhaust.
VW Beetle 1300 | 1500 - up to 3/74.
VW Beetle 1600 - up to 7/75.
Type 181 (Thing).
The Tuck-Away is an ideal exhaust system for lowered Volkswagen Beetles. Both mufflers are hidden behind the rear panel for better ground clearance. Both ends are chrome-plated and angled, coming out from under the rear fenders. The sound is civilized but powerful. The gasket is also available separately (01093). You can also replace the muffler with a stinger, available separately.
High-performance header exhaust systems
Besides the range of sport exhaust systems, there is an even broader range of high-performance header exhaust systems. This tube system is designed so that from each exhaust port on the cylinders to the muffler (or muffler combination) an equal-length exhaust line is created. When the length to the muffler is equal for all 4 cylinders, the maximum power gain is achieved. All header exhaust systems consist of a header part and one or more mufflers. Since the header can be used separately from the muffler or a muffler combination, it is also possible to connect a different muffler or muffler combination. This does not apply to complete header exhaust systems, where only the mentioned muffler can be fitted.
There are two types of header exhaust systems:
- complete systems, supplied including the corresponding headers, mufflers or muffler combinations and the required gaskets with mounting parts
- combined exhaust systems, in which header and muffler (or muffler combinations) are supplied separately
With the latter type you have the most options and you can also fit a different type of muffler later, so you are not tied to a complete system. On most high-performance exhaust systems the heating (heat exchanger) does not stop working (unless otherwise stated); this is a common misunderstanding.
