Brake cylinders should never be installed dry; instead, all internal parts should be lubricated with a thin layer of brake cylinder paste.

You might assume that new brake parts are therefore already treated with brake cylinder paste at the factory, but this is not always the case. Do not use universal oils, greases, or brake fluids; only use brake cylinder paste designed for this purpose. This is the only way to ensure proper and long-term lubrication of the components and significantly reduce the risk of leaks due to dry running and drying out.
