Type 1 / VW Beetle engines 1300 | 1600cc - 8/70 to 1975.

The cooling flaps (located on the left and right side of the cooling space of the Type 1 engine) are connected to each other by a rod, so they can be opened or closed at the same time. This rod is fastened to the cooling flaps with springs. On the dual port engines up to 1975 this was changed to clips. Later it turned out that the springs worked better than the clips, so after 1975 (except for the 1200 cc engines) the clips were replaced with springs again.

The springs were used not only for the cooling flaps, but also as a lock for the accelerator pedal roller and as a lock for the heating and ventilation rods in the dashboard. Both are supplied in sets, enough to fully secure the rod.
