The roof rack was the first accessory available for the car. For our classic Volkswagen this was not much different. Several manufacturers developed ways to carry extra luggage. Unfortunately most manufacturers have now stopped producing luggage racks for our classic, but fortunately there are still specialists who bring reproductions or their own creations to the market:

Roof rack "Classic":

These popular roof racks are fastened with clips around the roof gutter and are fitted with authentic wooden bars. You can choose between a gray-painted steel or stainless steel frame. On the VW Bus rack you can choose between polished aluminum cross bars and stainless steel cross bars on the stainless steel version. The gray-painted frame is available as it was back then, while the polished stainless steel frame is an improvement; with the latter the rust problem is a thing of the past. Volkswagen Beetle racks can be used for all model years except the convertible version. The VW Bus racks up to 7/1979 are not suitable for high-roof models.

Roof rack "Vintage":

The "classic" roof racks have a rather square shape, while our Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia cannot exactly be called square. It would be so much more pleasant if the rack could also follow the contours of the body. With this in mind, the makers of the "Vintage" rack started to develop a rack that follows the contours of the body. The result is magnificent. A rack with a very classic look, entirely in line with the roof line, made of polished stainless steel and fitted with wooden bars that fit together like a honeycomb in fine detail. It is mounted to the roof gutters with the supplied mounting hardware (stainless steel). Available for the Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia except the convertible versions.

Rack for the trunk lid:

If you need more room for your luggage, the Volkswagen Beetle or Karmann Ghia can also be fitted with a rack for the engine lid. These racks are mounted between the cooling slots and, on the Volkswagen Beetle, also to the bumper brackets. On the Karmann Ghia there is no obstacle to opening the engine lid; on the Volkswagen Beetle you have to unscrew the lower brackets and tilt or slide the rack up. Available with chrome-plated, galvanized or stainless steel frame, fitted with wooden or metal bars. All racks are supplied with mounting hardware.
