The shift rod comes out through the nose of the gearbox. To make the gearbox completely free of play, there is a bearing bush in the nose section. On the older models this is followed by a second identical bearing bush.

As the vehicles got older, this proved to be a weak point for oil leaks. Newer models received a bearing bush with an oil seal. If only the shaft seal needs replacing, take the loose shaft seal (3794).

Bear in mind that when assembling the new bearing bushes there is a possibility you still have to grind them to the correct inner dimension. On the gearboxes with two successive identical bushes this is 15.032 mm; for the bush with the circlip no dimensions are stated - the shift rod must be able to move without play.

The bearing bushes are supplied in a set with two bearing bushes and, where applicable, a fitted circlip.
