Type 14 Karmann Ghia - 8/60 to 1971.
T2 Bus - 6/59 to 7/75.
VW Type 3 - up to 1971.
181 (Thing) - up to 7/71.

It happens very often that this spring has broken. A broken spring does not pull the clutch back fully, so the release bearing always turns slightly, which can lead to faster minor wear. Check the condition of the spring at every service and replace it if necessary. This spring sits around the clutch fork and clamps around the clutch arm on the side of the gearbox. Fitting is difficult work and very awkward if the arm is still fitted. Removing the arm makes the job much more pleasant.

Caution: The Beetle and the Karmann Ghia have different springs. It is not the spring or the year of your car, but the year of your gearbox that matters. Over the years it can easily happen that it has already been replaced and a gearbox from a different year has been fitted.
