The fuel tank of the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3 and Type 181 is fastened to the body with sheet-metal clamps. Over time Volkswagen used two different types of locking clamp. The most common is the square "frog-foot model", and semicircular plates were also used. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find out which model was used when, partly because the original part numbers were used interchangeably. The stated model years and VW models were compiled by searching the original VW parts books, based on the picture and not on the VW number. It is therefore possible that the stated model year and VW model for a particular clamp do not match what is fitted. In that case, choose the correct model even if the model year and/or VW model does not match the description. Both plates have exactly the same function and can be used together.

Seal between tank and body
When the fuel tank is removed, the seal between the tank and the body is damaged. This seal not only ensures that moisture is kept out, but was also used at the time to prevent squeaking and cracking, with keeping moisture out being an additional benefit. Be sensible and order the seal together with the clamps; reuse is impossible.
