Adjustable Spring Plates Swing Axle

Adjusting the height at the rear can only be done by moving the spring plates one or more teeth on the torsion bars. It is not only a difficult job, but when you are finished and not satisfied with the end result, you can start all over again. In addition you are limited to the number of teeth; a small height adjustment is not possible. With these infinitely adjustable spring plates you have complete freedom and can adjust the height in no time.

With these adjustable torsion bar plates it is also necessary to replace the torsion bar rubbers with urethane rubbers, available in our shop. The inner rubber needs a different size than the standard fitted one, and it makes sense to replace the outer rubber for the urethane too. It is also advisable to replace the torsion bar covers immediately, as these can also differ from the originally fitted ones.

Some people use the torsion bars of a swing axle for an IRS suspension, where your axle no longer protrudes from the torsion bar cover but is locked as with a swing axle. This system is especially popular with buggies and is mainly used to improve the appearance without the protruding axles.

Caution: Only on IRS does the central mounting slot not match the original trailing arms. Place your old spring plate on the adjustable plate, mark the hole and drill or countersink an additional hole in the spring plates. These adjustable spring plates are often used in off-road racing, where not the original trailing arms but reinforced arms with the central hole in the correct place are used.

When fitting in a Volkswagen Beetle or Karmann Ghia from before July 1959, it is necessary to remove the lumps from the urethane inner rubbers.
