When the clutch actuates the shaft, it often causes serious damage to the clutch housing. You have to renew everything, including the clutch release bearing sleeve.

As this sleeve is not subject to wear, damage caused by problems with the clutch actuating shaft is the main reason for replacement. It is, however, usually bought when you want to change from a so-called floating bearing to a guided bearing.

On older Volkswagens the release bearing is not guided but floating, which can lead to problems more quickly, especially under heavy clutch use such as off-road use or other forms of motorsport.

If your gearbox has mountings for the guide sleeve, you can convert it. If nothing is present, you have to find a different gearbox that is prepared for it.
